700th anniversary of Kolozsvár’s city status – Photos
Kolozsvár, August 19 (MTI) – Zsolt Németh, the head of the Hungarian parliament’s foreign affairs committee, on Friday congratulated Kolozsvár (in Romanian: Cluj-Napoca) on its 700 years of city status.
The secret to Cluj-Napoca’s long life as a city is that throughout its 700 years, it had “managed to be beautiful, clever and good” all at the same time, Németh said before a gala ceremony.
He said the city’s beauty lies in its cultural diversity and its cleverness in its efforts to create a knowledge-based economy. The city’s goodness manifests itself in the support it provides to those in need, minorities and historical churches, he added.
Németh announced that the state of Hungary will present Gergely Balázs, the main organiser of the Hungarian Days cultural event in Cluj (Kolozsvári Napok), with the Pro Cultura Hungarica Award.
